A word about competitions.
I do not believe it is in the students' best interest to encourage competitions during the pre-college years of development. Spending many months grooming a few pieces to win something dramatically affects their overall growth and development for learning many other things. My philosophy for teaching includes a balance between some polished performances in recitals and covering a large volume of music reading pieces. The latter is the most important skill a student will carry with them the rest of their life.
